Can't explain it, but lately light has been 'whispering' to me a lot. Fortunately my camera is usually not too far away when it does.

I don't know how addicted you are to Weather.com reports, but there's been some hellacious winds hitting my neck of the woods lately, which always makes for all kinds of crap getting washed up on the beach and just generally making it look like a landfill. The other day was incredibly warm, so on my way to the grocery store, I decided to take the long way and stop by the beach. Sure enough, not only was there all manner of seaweed, garbage, buoys, ropes, whatever, but apparently a massive school of puffer fish got caught in the carnage. There were tons of fish carcasses littering the beach for hundreds and hundreds of feet. The seagulls and flies seemed happy, but damn if it didn't stink. :O

Well, I was going to post some pics, but today is Grey Tuesday, so let's support a little civil disobedience, shall we?

Just a little entertainment made by Someone Not Me for Friday evening. I've posting things here before and touted them with the same title, but I honestly think this is the funniest thing I've ever seen on the internet. Behold.

I'm still wiping tears off my face and it's like the 50th time I've read it. There's more here.

Yeah, yesterday was the site fulfilling it's purpose of keeping friend's up to date on things that others might not know about. Sorry if you were left confused. Now on to the fun stuff!

So the news I had on Friday regarding the magazine was this: I randomly got a mail from an employee of one of the bigger Mac publications here in Japan, MacPeople, asking me if they could publish one of my photos in their mag and use the series it came from on the CD-ROM that comes with their magazine. Awesome or what?

Suffice it to say I was very pleased when they asked and even more pleased when the complimentary issue came in the mail the other day. You can see here the page it was on (fairly early on page 20, no less) with a close-up of my name and this humble URL. Yay for me!

Granted, it's a pretty small photo and they're organized alphabetically so 'Transmission' ended up near the end of the bunch, but what can you do? I'm just thrilled to be a published aritist. Now if I could only make money off of doing it somehow.

I can't believe I'm getting screwed over again by the same goddamn shit!

Is there anyone out there that isn't absolutely terrified of living!?!?

P.S. - Happy fucking Valentine's Day

Welcome to the readers of MacPeople magazine. If you've come in search of more desktop images, check out the wallpapers section, or my .mac homepage (the Main Page of which can be reached by clicking on the spiffy little badge I just made up today.)

To the rest of you who are wondering wtf I'm talking about, I'll be back from the Office Trip on Sunday to clear it all up. Hang in there! ^_^

Kumate-sensei comes up to his desk the other day and dumps out an armload of handles. You read that right, handles. Wondering what the hell a pile of rubber handles could possibly be used for, I take the initiative and ask him what he's up to this time.

He explains to me that they're for the Track and Field team, to hold in their hands while running. Perhaps obviously I ask why anyone would ever want to do such a thing. He tells me, "According to the company it allows the runner to focus their energies and run much, much better."

I conjure up the most incredulous expression my face can manage and say, "Sensei. That seems really dodgy."

He then grabs a pair, putting them on and saying, "No, for real. See?" and then proceeds to demonstrate how they should be used as this video testimony(30k), taken with my cel phone, shows. Then in mid-stride he stops, takes them off and looks at them and says, "Yeah, they're kinda dodgy, huh?"

This site writes itself, I swear to God.

I, for one, am sure glad that the cover for the Karate Kid DVD box set here in Japan made sure to prominently feature Ralph Macchio getting his sorry ass beat by the Evil Karate gang. Nothing like capturing the essense of your story's hero for the sake of selling product, eh? Let's compare the US cover art with Japan's for a moment. (Yes, clicking on those will give you the full images.)

"Ow! Hey, those are my nuts!!"

"Mr. Miyagi was right! I can feel the spirit of the graceful swan, seeking solace in the bountiful harmony of the eternal universe."

"Your sensei's karate is shit, Larusso!!"

So now that the ol' creative batteries are recharged, I've been getting back into the artistic groove. I figure this will also help my mindset for when I try to find, fingers-crossed, some form of creative venture when I go back to the States in another six months.

I've dusted off Photoshop and have been slowly getting back into the groove. My first few efforts so far have been mediocre at best, but I am getting the hang of the insane number of tools available in this brilliant application. The first few fruits of my early experimenting efforts are available at my .mac homepage. And before you give me shit for the gay, little flower pic, let me just say that it was supposed to be a saccharine little happy-pic to cheer up Yui since she been stressed out at work lately, so STFU! :P

I also have a new Hair Flap desktop for those who like that sort of thing. This one is a night shot that features the Hair Flap barber shop itself.

While we're on the subject of desktop images, do people want them bigger than what I've got up in the section now? Currently everything is in 1024x768, but I've been playing with the idea of making larger "widescreen" versions (like 1440x900) available as well. If you'd like to see bigger versions of wallpapers, please drop me a line that just says, "Yes, bigger please" or something. I'll get the hint.

Also want to send a shout out to Nuber who created this beautiful image and was kind enough to offer me some Photoshop pointers that I probably never would have figured out on my own. He's got a lot more images on his site that you should definitely check out if you have the time. He assures me there's more to come, with updates coming in about once a week.
